Here's the Interview: One-on-One with DFree Da Vinci!

Artist name: Dfree Da Vinci

Where you from/ Location: Chicago, IL

1. How did you come into wanting to become a rapper?

I always had the natural talent of rappin since I was a youngin’, but I started taking it more serious after seeing a Uzi concert in Chicago and how he connected with his fans. This was my first concert I ever been to too, and I realized that’s something I can do for a long time.

2. What separates your music from other artists? Describe yourself as an artist?

What separates me from most artist is my wordplay and my bars. The popular music right now isn’t big on lyricism but it’s somethin I take pride in when I write. I aim to say stuff that people would never think of.

3. What artists do you look up to?

I really look up to Big Sean, been messin with him since 2009.

4. Why is pursuing your music important to you?

Because it gives me a voice that nobody can limit or take away. Music gives me an opportunity to make myself a brand, a brand that I have complete control over.

5. With you being from your city, did the sound of early hip-hop/rap influence your music in anyway?

Yea, you can hear it in my sound and tell where im from. It’s a blessing and a curse because I can only make music based off of my influences and not anyone else’s.

6. What direction you think you're setting for your city music scene?

Chicago is known for it’s drill scene, but I’m steering away from that. I’m trying to set a direction for more diverse artist that were raised on the drill movement if that makes sense.

7. What do you think will help your city artists become more mainstream?

I think the support of others, it’s a lot of hatin going on in the city and it aint doing nothing but holding everyone back.

8. Where can fans find you?

YouTube? SoundCloud?

I can be found anywhere when you search “Dfree Da Vinci”, my twitter and IG is @dfreedavinci.
