Here's the Interview: One-on-One with Fendi Benz

Fendi Benz/ Charlotte NC

1. How did you come into wanting to become a rapper?

I always loved entertaining people and dancing as a lil kid, and People just naturally leaned in my direction since a jit, my pops always played new music around me and he was naturally that nigga too so I was so I just started rapping one day because i just felt it in me lol

2. What separates your music from other artists? Describe yourself as an artist?

if you listen to my music it isn't really rap, of course some of it is rap but majority of it isn't really rap it's just like nice sounds, i like to create melodies with my voice to bounce off of certain types of beats, I always approach a beat like I'm trying hop on an escalator w/out getting caught up on 2 steps, I need a smoothi transition that flows together, these these other artist too caught up in trying to make a song sound like what's poppin when you kan just make something even more harder with a different approach

3. What artists do you look up to?

only artist I look up to is Michael Jackson he is the all time greatest, I don't want to be anything less. That's the bar I set for my self, it may sound corny but like it is what it is I been listening to Michael Jackson since a jit like really listening to that shit like from Jackson 5 all the way to super Saiyan Michael.

4. Why is pursuing your music important to you?

im so deep in this music shit I kind of have no choice now, I'm not in school I never liked school, and music just makes me happy it makes everything else irrelevant in my life. I want to provide for my family and change lives doing what I love. And so many people tell me I'm going to make it so I Kant let them down that's lame as Fuxk.

5. With you being from your city, did the sound of early hip-hop/rap influence your music in anyway?

my city cool or what ever but it never influenced me lol, like I said my pops been that nigga he just like me but older, he know all the hip shit and just been playing all types of music around me since I was a baby from outkast to Erykah, to ghostface. Then my mom was into like Michael Jackson and Sade, so I got the beat of both worlds.

6. What direction you think you're settling for your city music scene?

Not saying I influenced people to start making music I. My city because people been making music here but like me and my gang we def raised the bar for the city and showed them how it's really done, I'm happy to see more of the youth getting on they're independent art trying to perfect their craft and really going hard with this art wave, I see big things for the future.

7. What do you think will help your city artists become more mainstream?

idk we have artist from the city that are mainstream like baby Jesus, Anthony Hamilton, shit like that but honestly they gotta get more into the real culture that's where my city remains stagnant at they're not in touch with the real youth and the radio is fuxking trash they need to fire every radio host in Charlotte nc sorry not sorry but you guys suck lol,

8.Where can fans find you?
