Here's the Interview: One-On-One with Kuz!
1. How did you come into wanting to become an artist?
I came into wanting to become an artist from many years of listening to music and many years of experiencing what my influences talk about in their content. I felt that since the day I had heard some of my favorite acts put their emotion and real life experience into their craft that I wanted to do the same to be able to relate to others that go through similar life experiences. I really enjoy the thought of other people being able to relate to me through a form of art that I have crafted and I really enjoy the feeling of getting feedback from those who do.
2. What separates your art from other artists in your field of work? Describe yourself as an artist?
What separates me from a lot of other artists, I feel, is that all of my music up to this point has been all self-produced, self-engineered and self-written. I feel it is a genuine sound that I have developed and am still developing as my music career begins to come into its own. Not a lot of people are able to find their sound from an early point but I feel I have crafted my own and have created something that is very unique. As an artist I like to be fun, relatable and very creative. I like to have all my music bounce and really enjoy the atmosphere that I can create. I am very passionate about my sound and lyrical content and hope that many others see that.
3. What artists do you look up to?
The artist that I look up to range from bands like Between the Buried and Me, Matt and Kim and Starfucker to hip-hop/rap/edm artists such as Future, Chance the Rapper, XXYYXX and now-a-days Lil Peep.
4. Why is pursuing visual arts important to you?
Pursuing visual arts is important to me because it allows me to put a mood to the songs that I create and really allows for my fans, followers and fellow listeners to see vividly the emotion and environment of what I picture in my own head after every track. It adds both a cool yet intimate connection with those who support me and want to know more about me through my music.
5. What tools do you use?
I use both Logic Pro X and FL Studio for all of my production. Nothing outsourced, all stock plug-ins for now but I hope soon that will change.
6. While in the moment of designing do you listen to any music? What do you do to keep you in your vibe?
I usually listen to Lil Peep or XXYYXX to gain inspiration on creating a new song or any type of art. I usually like the more emotional/ambient side of music because it allows me to get inspired in creating that next vibe. Usually I will drive around for 30 minutes to an hour with my music on maximum volume and just gather my thoughts to keep my vibe going for that moment.
7. How do you come up with the concept for a piece?
Usually I will come up with a concept for my music or my next piece by just seeing how I genuinely feel that day. All of my music is based off the mood of when I created it. If I'm in a good mood, I will usually make a brighter melody with some fast paced drums but if I am feeling somber or in a chill/down mood, more of the ambience comes out of me and I can create something slower or more drowned out.
8. What's your favorite piece of art you've designed and why?
My favorite piece of work I've created up until this point is my newest unreleased project Digital Hipster, set to drop April, 20th. The project is my favorite because I created it from scratch by myself, 10-songs. I also feel the story is a great input on my life, who I am, how I feel, what I go through and what I hope to go through in the future. The album is a bright sound and is very inspiring and up lifting, two things that I really enjoy trying to put into my music.
9. Any artist(s) you would like to collab with?
Some artists I would like to collab with in the future would be Lil Peep Shawty, Matt and Kim and Nebu Kiniza. Lil Peep is from Long Island, where I'm from, so that would be sick for the hometown I feel.
10. Where can fans find you?
The fans can find me on twitter @kuzmackadelic and on instagram @a_bathing_nate to keep up with my music and my everyday tweets and photos.
Thank you all for the time and for reading. Hope you all enjoyed!
Much Love,
Kuz?
