Here's the Interview: One-on-One with Motive:
1. How did you come into wanting to become a rapper?
My older brothers use to rap and my father use to manage artist so I been around music my whole life. You get tired of getting muscled for the tv to listen to instrumentals so you end up picking up a pen and start writing a few raps for yourself. I started when I was about 8.
2. What separates your music from other artists? Describe yourself as an artist?
I feel like my music is too real and if you hustle like I hustle then you'll be able to relate very well. People tell me my music is so detail they feel like They were there making that sale or "busting that play". I try to keep my music as down to earth as possible even if I exaggerate a little bit about something I bought or got, trust me I'm going to get it within a month or so lol.
3. What artists do you look up to?
I look up to rappers like Jay-z, Rocko, and Ralo is a new one I been looking up too. Basically I like the rappers that had to hustle there way out the hood and now trying to motivate every one to make it out too whichever route they decide to choose. I hate them rappers that try to make hustling seem cool cuz if you really do, you'll know that's not a job you wanna do your whole life
4. Why is pursuing your music important to you?
Pursing a career in music ain't as important to me as people think it is. My main goal is to make a dynasty weather its in music or with my clothing line "Fly Stoner" or even if it's in real-estate. Make enough money to take care of my family and give back to my community is the milestone everything extra is a blessing which I'm still going to work toward. Rapping is just that first love you'll always give your time and money too.
5. With you being from your city, did the sound of early hip-hop/rap influence your music in anyway?
Yea I think it did. I listen to a lot of Biggie I wasn't a fan Tupac very much cuz I felt like Biggie lyrics was just so detailed I felt like I was with him on his robberies. Also Trick Daddy had a big influence being he was from my city (Miami-Dade) and rapped about the real struggle that I seen with my own eyes growing up. So it motivated me to give my fans the same raw details we grew up to in South Florida
6. What direction you think you're settling for your city music scene?
That's it's not all just palm trees and booty shaking music. But at the same time it's not all just trap music and riding Box Chevy. We got some real talented people down here that's just trying to hustle our way out and get our chance to showcase what we can do. I feel like this year I'm ready to give it my all and break down that shadow overcasting my city.
7. What do you think will help your city artists become more mainstream?
We need more in house everything down here. More major producers, A&R's, PR's, and even labels. It's not a lot of major outlets which forces everyone to move out of the state for that extra push. For now I'm going try to build everything from the ground up hopefully paving the way for everybody else. Then everyone eats.
8. Where can fans find you?
YouTube? SoundCloud?
My YouTube channel is "Motive101". And my SoundCloud/IG/Twitter/Snapchat: @Fym_Motive
