TheBagradio got a chance to connect with Shekel and speak to him about why his music is setting the bar for new-comers in Miami, FL. Shekel raps are a little different from your average trap RAPs. Here's the Interview: One-on-One with Shekel

1. How did you come into wanting to become a rapper?

I've always been a rapper ,but I realized I wanted to be a successful rapper my last year in high school.

2. What separates your music from other artists? Describe yourself as an artist?

I would say the fact that my story is 100% authentic, I don't just wanna talk about nice cars and clothes. I like to give people my real life struggles. Describe myself.. I would say an "artist " because I don't just like hip hop/rap. I'm open to all music, where I'm from we barely even play hip hop/rap. I grew up off reggae and gospel music, so I'm open to all genres. I'm not a rapper, I'm an artist that just knows how to rap good.

Fabolous and J.cole

4. Why is pursuing your music important to you?

Because it's not just for me. Where I'm from the opportunity to do what I'm doing only comes around once in the blue moon, so I'm not just doing it for myself. I'm paving the way for other young Bahamian artists who want to chase their dreams.

5. With you being from your city, did the sound of early hip-hop/rap influence your music in anyway?

Yes It did.

6. What direction you think you're settling for your city music scene?

To answer that I think we would have to wait and see what impact the music has first.

7. What do you think will help your city artists become more mainstream?

To actually be themselves and not the rapper or singer they look up to.
